Patsy Sasek-Artist Bio
I am a San Antonio artist. I enjoy using the distinctive flavors and colors of San Antonio and the Southwest in my work. I was influenced at age four by art lessons at the Witte Museum and encouraged by my artistic mother. When I was five, I ran away to the newly opened McNay Art Museum because I loved being around all that beautiful art. I studied art and design at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a degree in Textiles& Fashion Design.
Living on a ranch and in small Texas towns for many years awakened my senses to the nuances of light and the unique and dramatic colors of those places. I studied with many nationally and internationally known artists including Caroline Shelton, Brad Braune, Gordon West, Clay McGaughy, Gerald Brommer, Joseph Zbukvic, Betsy Dillard Stroud, Jean Grafton, Mary Ann Beckwith and others.
I have have been fortunate to have won awards for my work including the Arts and Letters Award for Watercolor Painting from the Friends of the San Antonio Library, Inspire Fine Arts first place award for painting and the award of a grant from the City of San Antonio for an art project called ArtPeace. In addition I helped to found the Cathedral House Gallery at the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. My work hangs in the new University Hospital VITAS Hospice, The Diocese of West Texas and ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying.
As graphic designer and marketing professional, I own my own business, Mustard Seed Designs and Marketing. Along with my husband, Edwin we design a line of greeting cards under the Mustard Seed Designs label which are sold in area shops, museums and bookstores in San Antonio and the Texas hill country. My work can be seen at Cathedral House Gallery, Twig Bookstore, San Antonio Art League Museum and Casa Margarita in San Antonio. In the Hill Country my work can be seen in Lone Star in Gruene and UrbanHerbal in Fredericksburg.
I conduct workshops in painting, collage and mixed media. I welcome commissioned work and enjoy using original artwork in my graphic designs for individuals, businesses and non-profit clients. A portion of the proceeds from sales of my artwork goes to ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying, a non profit organization that my husband and I founded to provide a home, at no cost. for those in need at end of life (www.abodehome.org).
